In a society where ‘man should be brave’ and outward strength dominates the perceived success of their masculinity, it’s no surprise that we fail to address men’s mental health and the stigma surrounding men’s vulnerabilities and emotional wellbeing.
Macho is the first part of our trilogy of works that focusses on the issues and stigmas surrounding mental health, specifically in the North East, which has the highest rate of male suicide cases. Staged with all male casts, Macho is sculpted around real men’s stories.
Expect a digital theatre journey exploring 21st century masculinity and the stigma surrounding men's vulnerabilities and emotional wellbeing.
MACHO DIGITAL PREMIERED MAY 2021
After the success of the sold out 2018 Macho tour, Macho was granted funding by Arts Council England to create a new ground-breaking dance performance captured on film. Performed by two male dancers, Macho is sculpted around real men’s stories and explores why and how society fails to adequately address men’s mental health problems and the stigma surrounding men’s vulnerabilities and emotional wellbeing. Our aim is to share our work with audiences online by raising awareness of people’s silent struggles through dance and enable them to share it with the people in their lives.
Transcending from stage to screen, Macho Digital reconnects with the original creative team and participants, facilitating connection at a time when it’s so very needed.
